About LASEC

The Latin American Sports Economics Conference (LASEC) is an international academic event dedicated to advancing research and discussion on the economics of sports in Latin America. It provides a platform for scholars, professionals, and students to exchange ideas, present research, and analyze the economic impact of sports across industries such as media, infrastructure, and labor markets. Given the rapid growth of the sports industry in the region, LASEC plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration between researchers and policymakers, contributing to the development of evidence-based strategies to enhance the economic and social benefits of sports.

The First Latin American Sports Economics Conference (LASEC-1) took place at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá on October 19–20, 2023. The Second LASEC took place at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima on July 17 and 18, 2025.

The third edition, LASEC-3, will take place at Universidad de Chile in Santiago on June 24 and 25, 2027. Our keynote speakers are Tim Pawlowski and Victor Matheson.

The main conference will be held at Universidad de Chile, in Diagonal Paraguay 257, Santiago, Chile (Facultad de Economía y Negocios, FEN U. de Chile).

Call for papers

The Economics Department at Universidad de Chile is pleased to invite researchers to submit a paper for the third Latin American Sports Economics Conference (LASEC-3) to be held in Santiago (Chile) on June 24th and 25th, 2027.

Submissions are welcome in any area related to sports economics, particularly papers addressing Latin American issues. Both completed works and research in progress are admissible; however, manuscripts already accepted for publication are not eligible. The conference language is English, but we also welcome outstanding research written or presented in Spanish.

The conference is thrilled to announce Tim Pawlowski (U. Tübingen) and Victor Matheson (Holy Cross University) as keynote speakers.

To participate, please submit the title, authors, corresponding affiliations, and a 500-word abstract outlining the research question, methods, and main results by March 1, 2027.
